Our Group Performance Rehearsal - Robin Hood

The Tale of the Three Brothers - The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
Here is a recording of my solo piece for this unit. I apologise if you cannot here is very well. Also, some pictures of/from the book.

Today we were mainly focusing on our group recording pieces and our solo recording pieces.
We did record our group piece last week but we recorded it on the wrong microphone so we have to record it again today and work on our solo pieces. We rehearsed our Robin Hood piece a couple of times before going in to record it. During the recording we decided to add an introduction, just saying what the piece was called and who was in it. I did this as the group thought that my voice was clear enough so that it could be understood. I think that this recording went a lot better that the first one did, after listening to it back it was a lot louder and clearer.
I then went to work independently on my solo piece; The Tale of the Three Brothers from The Tales of Beedle the Bard (from the Harry Potter Franchise). I chose this a few week ago but before settling on this piece I was going to read a few pages from the first Harry Potter book; Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. I decided to change it, however, because after thinking about it more I thought that The Tale of the Three Brothers would be more interesting to the listener, I also thought this because I really like the story and thought it would be really fun to do. For the past few weeks I have been rehearsing at home, just reading though it and trying out different ways to read it. To help me figure out what was best I decided to watch the scene in the film with the story and read that chapter of the book (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). In both it is read by Hermione Granger so, after experimenting different ways to say it, I settled on imitating her voice as best I could, both tone and accent.
Due to mistakes when reading it, it took 5 times to get it right. The mistakes included; missing out or skipping words, stuttering, speaking to fast, to long of a pause etc. I think that once I had finished the recording I did pretty well, even though during it I was pretty nervous I was going to mess up again. Also, while recording, I think I slipped up a couple of times but nothing very obvious like the times before. I shall post a recording of this for you to listen to shortly.

Today we looked back over the Robin Hood script that we were given to give us more of an idea of what we could do for our group pieces. We decided that we enjoyed the script so much that we were going to do this for our group piece.
After practising through it a couple of times we decided that we all wanted to watch the scene from the film, so we went into a room and watched it a couple of times. We wanted to do this so that it could possibly help us make our scene better and improve our characterisation. After watching it we realised that there was a couple of errors in our script, one of which was a character saying the someone else's line. 'Put your hand on your heart and cross your eyes' was said my Skippy in our script and Skippy's Baby Sister (my character) in the film, so we decided we would correct the mistake so that I said it instead. We then rehearsed it again a couple of times and then went to record it.
We messed up a couple of times during the recording and had to start again but in the end, once we listened to it back,it sounded a bit quiet but I think it sounded pretty good.

We started off today by watching a clip from Disney's Robin Hood. This was linked to today's subject: animation voice overs. After watching this clip we got into groups and chose a scene from Robin Hood that we wanted to do. We chose the Birthday Party. The members of my group and cast list is below:

We had a lot of fun rehearsing this and finding different ways to say it using various accents and tone of voice. We eventually decided to do an American accent with a slight Texan in it. For my character, as she is a toddler, I have to use a baby voice. I found this very fun as I was able to experiment with my voice a lot more and have fun with it. I tried to give my character a slight lisp and stutter on some words as children this age are still learning to speak properly and I think that that made the character more believable.
I really enjoyed today's lesson a lot more than what I thought I would as I didn't think that I would be able to do that well with changing my voice into that of a cartoon character.
I will post the recording and a picture of my script shortly after this so that you can all have a listen and a read.

During this day I was on a educational visit to London. Whilst I was away they looked at children's books and different ways you can use your voice for different characters.

Today we worked on the Archer's script that we were given last week. As I mentioned in the previous post, I am playing the character Anthea. Anthea is a well spoken character and that required me to do an RP (Received Pronunciation) accent. In the 2 scenes that I am in I am talking to a character named Lynda, played by Helen Patterson. In our scenes Lynda is asking Anthea is she will play the upcoming role of Maid Marian in a stage production of Robin Hood that she is directing.
Myself and Helen had a lot of fun rehearsing and performing this as we could play on the accent a lot by elongating certain words and playing with them. Our characters are older than we are and by the sounds of the script probably in their 30s or 40s, so this way we could had an older vibe with the accent as well. I definitely enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would and cannot wait to see what next week brings.
I will be posting the script and the recording of this as soon as I can.
